1 Samuel 22:17
"And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD."
Far better to obey God rather than man. When the dictates of human authority conflict with that of God's authority, a Christian's choice is simple and clear. This choice may be plain and obvious, but it will be a difficult one.
Choosing to go against a human command may be one of the hardest things we ever do. The combination of peer pressure, threat of retaliation and more do a lot to push us toward the easy route.
But a Christian with a heavenly perspective will look beyond the here and now. Our eyes must be set on heaven and what our actions say regarding the location of our heart and our treasure.
What would I have some placed in the position if Saul's men? They very well could have lost their lives for their stand. What if all had gone along except yourself? Would you have the strength to stand alone? Where does strength like that come from?
All questions we must answer for ourselves. Because there will come a day your loyalties will be tested. Count on it.
